This course is for DDA SUPPORTIVE LIVING CAREGIVERS ONLY! If you work for a Private In-home agency or Adult Family Home, you must register for the other Nurse Delegation Special Focus on Diabetes course.

After completing this course, the caregiver will be able to:
Define key terms related to Diabetes.
Describe the structure and function of the endocrine system related to the types of diabetes.
Differentiate the types of diabetes.
Identify the signs, symptoms, and treatment of Hyperglycemia and Hypoglycemia.
Identify their role in helping clients manage diabetes safely.
Differentiate the Different types of insulins.
Identify the onset, peak, and duration of the different insulins.
Describe how to properly store insulin.
Identify the different ways insulin may be ordered.
Identify non-insulin injectable drugs.
Describe the different methods in which insulin may be delivered.
Explain the step-by-step procedure for preparing and administering an insulin injection with a pen.
Describe the proper disposal of sharps.
Identify where to inject insulin and explain the purpose of the site rotatation.
